About our cause
Bilsthorpe Heritage Museum was opened in 2014 as a result of a small group of miners who collected artefacts, photos, paperwork etc. when Bilsthorpe Pit closed. The collection grew so big that it needed a permanent home and when Bilsthorpe Squash Courts became available to rent it was moved there. More and more people wanted to view the collection and it was officially opened by Sir Mark Spencer in July 2014. We take the story of mining to schools, colleges and other interested groups as well as opening three days a week, all of us are volunteers with no paid staff. Donations are very important to us as we do not charge for any of our services. We also encourage villagers to come in and have a chat and a hot drink, which means a lot to those who feel isolated or suffer from dementia, some even show visitors around if we are busy.
It would be great if you would support us and we wish you luck in the draw. Cris
